Sun, Sea, and Sand - Beaches of Sabah

Probably one of the most interesting parts of my job is related to beaches - Sabah's beautiful and not so beautiful beaches. The task is to assess the quality of these beaches in terms of its setting, sand textures, color, quantity, depth, beach gradient, cleanliness, sea colour, distance of high water mark from shore, accessibility to the beaches, and the availability of infrastructures and amenities. Normally, the assessment took place on both at high and low tides as sedimentation of sand and other particles may or could be deposited on the beach area and these will have a bearing to the quality of such beaches.

A long stretch of beach with smooth sand texture preferably sparkle white with gentle gradient/slope and clean from rubbish that may be washed ashore from other areas of the island (or mainland) will be definitely rated as first class beach. There are many such beaches fall under these criteria in Sabah, however, due to poor road accessibility and lack of infrastructures such as water and electricity supplies, have jeopardised the full potential of these beaches as best beach destination in Borneo. Most of these beaches are far far beautiful and stunning in terms of esthetic value and vistas in comparable to beaches in well-known destinations of the world such as Bali, Pulau Langkawi, Playa of San Sebastian in Spain or the French Reviera (*you just have to believe me on this one as I have been to these places*).

Anyway, here are some of the best beaches found in Sabah for your viewing pleasure. I also include a few beaches of the world not for comparison purposes but something to admire for. Enjoy the randomness.

Terongkongon Beach at Kg. Minyak, Matunggung.

Molleagin Kecil Beach at Molleagin Kecil Island a 25 minites boat ride from Banggi Island, northern part of Sabah/Borneo Island.

A bird eye view of Teringai Laut Beach from Keniung Hill in Kudat District.

Long stretches of Kimihang Beach in north-western of Borneo.

Kuta Beach, Bali Indonesia - the main attraction here is the wave which is heaven for surfers.

Sentosa Beach, a man made beach at Pulau Sentosa, Singapore.

At the French Reviera - most of the beaches here are privately owned by the hotel across the street. A public beach at the size of a football pitch will cost a visitor 5 franc to enter at a specified time limit. Here with friend Ms. daisy from Korea.
